Why Do We Require Phone Numbers On Listings?

One of the requirements when creating a listing on The Cavvy is including a phone number.

That choice was intentional.

Most horse sales eventually end up in a phone call anyway. Buyers want to ask a few questions, sellers want to explain the horse, and things move forward from there. Messaging and comments are helpful, but they rarely replace a real conversation.

Including a phone number keeps that step simple. If someone is serious about the horse, they can pick up the phone and call.

Another reason is accountability. Unfortunately, scammers tend to avoid situations where they can be contacted directly. Requiring a phone number does not eliminate bad actors entirely, but it removes a lot of the anonymity that makes online scams possible in the first place.

More than anything, we want the platform to feel straightforward. Horses are already complicated enough. A listing should show the horse clearly, answer the obvious questions, and make it easy for the buyer and seller to connect.

That said, we understand there may be situations where someone is not comfortable posting a phone number publicly. If that’s the case, reach out to us directly and we’ll work with you to find a solution.

Requiring a phone number is a small detail, but it helps keep the process moving the way horse sales usually do: directly, and between the people involved.
