Description
“Chex” is a been there done that guy. He’s a point and shoot and DO horse. He’s been owned by the same family last 5 years for ranch work, and has dabbled in roping on the heel side in the past as well. Stops hard, turns well. He’s not the smoothest horse to ride but he’ll get you where you need to go with a purpose. He’s drug hundreds of calves to the fire no issues, his main rider the last 5 years for a 6’+ man who he had no issues getting around. He may be small and chunky but he’s mighty! He’s got a kind eye to finish off his beautiful coloring and correct conformation.
Chex is Hot. He is Forward. He needs a confident rider. If you want what we call a “rocket donkey” he’s your horse. He’s got some spunk, he did throw a hop in first thing in the morning but rode off quiet. We believe it’s just coming back into work and lots going on in the morning jitters. It has not been a full buck by any means and again if you want to let him lunge out quick and or just sit it, it’s manageable and owner said he’d never bucked in the past so we’re still trying to deduce him.
He rides naturally high headed and is soft in the mouth, previous video shows he was rode in a tie down when roping out of the box but current owners never used one on him for ranch work.
We got him and saddled up and let him take a spin in the round pen given his time off and he didn’t give any grief. He’s not twitchy or nervy to be around, he’s a very pleasant personable horse.
He’s been primarily barefoot but he’s got a fresh set of shoes on as of 6/18. He’s a dream for the farrier. Clean straight legs. He’s been well cared for, and is an easy keeper!
He’s low in the herd standing but no marks to show. He’s easy to catch, UTD on wormer and vaccine, no travel long recently for him other than to our place given he was used on the ranch solely. He self loads right up in the trailer, and doesn’t dig a hole in the ground being alone.
He is SOUND. He’s been sitting about 6 months or longer and he’s chunky, out of shame, and didn’t do great on our harder footing in the arena. Owner guarantees him, we guarantee him as he steps on trailer.
Vices: Cribs… and unfortunately it shows. He’s worn down most of his top front teeth from over the years, definitely better in a pasture environment or be mindful of the habit. He can still graze but it’ll affect him down the road with short grass likely.
