8-Year-Old Gelding | 39 Inches | The Ultimate Kids’ Pony Bobby is an 8-year-old gelding standing 39 inches tall. He is heavy made, flashy, and exactly the kind of pony families are constantly asking us to find. Bobby originally came out of Amish country, where he was used to take kids to school. Before coming to our ranch, his main rider was a 4-year-old little girl, and our youngest son has used him as a confidence builder. He is happy to tote around a timid child and handles all the mistakes like a gentleman .He has done a phenomenal job taking care of every little rider we have put on his back. He is not a forward pony. Bobby is happy to walk along quietly, but he will walk, trot, and lope when asked. He is easy enough for the smallest ranch kid to ride and has the quiet, sensible mind we look for in a true beginner pony. He leads, loads, and ties perfectly and is great for the farrier. He does not get fresh with time off. You can leave him sitting and come back to the same gentle, kind pony every single time. At our house, the good ones earn the title of “babysitter,” and Bobby has absolutely earned it. When we tell the kids to run to the barn and grab a pony, Dax always grabs Bobby. He doesn’t walk over the top of little ones, stands quietly to be groomed and loved on, and is good for the farrier. Bobby has seen real ranch life and doesn’t get bothered by much. He is accustomed to side-by-sides, tractors, four-wheelers, wild pigs, dogs, cats, chickens, and, most importantly, a whole crew of wild ranch kids running around him. He will happily come right in the house to play with the kids and act like he belongs there. He is smart and is trained to lay down . Bobby is always willing to try whatever is asked of him. He rides saddled or bareback and will take a bridle, but rides just as well in a loping hack. He is stout and heavy made enough for a bigger kid or small adult to hop on and keep him tuned up, and a regular saddle fits him nicely. Bobby is what we consider the gold standard for a first-time pony. He would be especially ideal for a family with multiple little ones who wants one pony they can grow up riding and enjoying.
